Slight Change in Course for Alexander Adventures!

Well a lot has changed in the adventures of this duo since my last posting in August.  Alexx and I spent quite a bit of time researching the rig we were hoping to buy through the months of September and October.  But while we were at the Huntsman Games in St. George, Utah, we decided to do a health screening.  It resulted in Alexx being diagnosed with diabetes II.  We spent the next three months focusing on changing his diet and getting his health back on track.  We were doing quite well as we brought his Hemoglobin down from 12.1 to 6.1 in three months.  But then further complications hit when he experienced angina on January 5th and I took him to the emergency room.  After diagnosis, they found he had three blocked arteries and required triple by-pass heart surgery.  We were fortunate to have wonderful doctors and after a month of recovery and three months of cardiac rehab he returned to the softball fields in April.  He's continued his low-carb diet and his hemoglobin is now a stellar 5.5.  He's chosen life over hot-fudge sundaes and happy with the choice. Now, however, the money we had hoped to put toward our rig and our new lifestyle is all going to pay for bills over the next four years.  We will not be looking at the full-timing lifestyle for at least that long.

In the meantime, we are not giving up our dream.  We are all set to try out a one-week life RVing on three different occasions this summer!  Our first adventure will be to Pinetop, AZ.  We've rented a 25 foot Class-C from Cruise America to take to the first softball tournament that Alexx will play in since his diabetes diagnosis.  We have reserved at a state park and hope to learn a bit while we enjoy the cool of the area and the comradeship of our ball-playing friends.

Next stop, is a one-way adventure with my mother and younger brother (shown above) as we take a 30-foot Class C from Cruise America from Tampa to Arizona via Santa Fe.  We are very excited to be moving my mother from her assisted-living facility in Tampa to a lovely group home near us.  Since this will most likely be her last big trip of her near 94 years, we all thought it would be a great way to move her.  I just qualified for my Golden Age Pass this past year so I hope to be using it at some lovely campgrounds along the way.  We'll be sure to post lots during that adventure.

Our final summer adventure will be a round-trip outing while we are in Minneapolis this summer.  Alexx's family is having a reunion in Michigan so we thought we'd rent a small rig for a week and see my aunt, his family and our friends who all live along the north end of Lake Michigan.  Alexx's mom might even do a night or two with us on that trip.

So stay tuned!  The Alexander Adventures continue...just not as we originally planned!  If there's one thing Alexx and I have learned in our life together, it's to be grateful and smile.  We appreciate your interest in our adventures and we hope to bring you some smiles along the way as well!
 Happy Trails!  Diedre
